DR Congo names Mputu for CHAN
Highly sought after striker Tresor Mputu is one of 11 players from champions TP Mazembe named by DR Congo in a 29-man provisional squad for next month's Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Ivory Coast.
Tresor Mputu has been included in DR Congo's provisional squad for the competition but will no longer be eligible for the tournament should he sign a professional contract overseas before the CHAN kicks off on February 22, as the competition is strictly for players in the domestic leagues.
Association Sportive Club of Kinshasa provide six players while city rivals Motema Pembe have five players in the squad.
The 23-year-old Mputu was top scorer in the CAF Champions League two years ago and has thus far interested Standard Liege, Olympique Marseille, Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers as well as several clubs in the Asia.
DR Congo, who eliminated Cameroon to qualify for the inaugural CHAN in Ivory Coast, are ready to play three warm-up matches before they leave for the tournament. They will take on Zambia in a friendly most likely on January 25 before further testing their readiness for the competition against Tanzania and Benin.
They are drawn in Group B along with Ghana, Libya and Zimbabwe. |
