Victory will not be cheap - Chiejine

Against the backdrop of growing optimism among Nigerians that the 6th African Women’s Championship (AWC) in Equatorial Guinea would be an easy win for the nation’s campaigners – Super Falcons, the team’s dependable legs, Ifeanyi Chiejine has cautioned that victory at the biennial soccer fiesta may not come cheap.
Chiejine who is expected to lead the attack against perennial arch-rival, Ghana’s Black Queens in the Sunday’s Group B opener said no country is a push-over in the round leather game.
“There is no problem with the high expectations, however the truth is that no country is a push-over anymore in football, every country has become threats to us. We have been the champion of Africa from inception, others want to be champion, too, so we must work hard for every victory.”
While admitting that the five-time African champion will not underrate any of their opponents, she assured that they will not let the country down.
“We are going to play our heart out and achieve another success. What I mean is that we will put in our best and not underrate any team,” she said.
Nigeria is in tough group B with Ghana, South Africa and Tunisia, while host, Equatorial Guinea is pitched against Cameroon, Mali and Congo.
