Fidelity ASPAMDA CUP
We’ll protect the title sponsorship jealously – Eddie-Ukwu
Title sponsor of the annual traders’ soccer competition, tagged Auto Spare Parts & Machineries Dealers Association (ASPAMDA) Cup, Fidelity Bank has told other banks interested in sponsorship of the event to kill the dream as there exist no vacancy for now.
Sounding off the note of finality at the opening ceremony of what has become the most successful grassroots soccer fiesta in Lagos on Thursday, Fidelity Bank Branch Manager 2, ASPAMDA, Simeon Eddie-Ukwu, told www.vandykesport.com that the financial giant will use its muscle to stop other banks from having a hold on the championship.
“We are satisfied with every kobo so far invested in the sponsorship of the game and the mileage has been tremendous.
“We will keep the sponsorship; we are happy and will guide it jealously. We are not tired, so the issue of other banks coming in is out of it.
“Naturally, people would want to associate themselves with successful projects, some have shown interest in co-sponsoring the event, however; for now we are not thinking of incorporating any other sponsor.”
Describing the Fidelity ASPAMDA Cup as integrative, Eddie-Ukwu said it will be their greatest joy to see the products of the tournament makes it to the national teams and league.
“Apart from sponsoring the event, we also want to identify talents and if such talents make it to the national teams or league, the credit will be ours and that will give us a measure of satisfaction,” he said.
Corroborating Eddie-Ukwu’s stand, an elated boss of ASPAMDA, Chief Ernest Sunday Ohanazoeze, while acknowledging the immense support of the bank to their course, stated that Fidelity must give approval before any other sponsor comes in.
“I am impressed with the growth of this event and we are grateful to Fidelity for keeping the event running these years. On our part, we will respect a verbal understanding we had with the bank concerning other sponsors, the bank must approve for any other sponsor to come in,” he said.
The year’s event which its grand finale comes up on December 13 will be competed for by six zones – Zone A (Peugeot Parts), Zone B (Japanese Parts), Zone C (Mercedes / Volvo), Zone D (Accessories), Zone E (British Parts), and Zone F/Z (Machine Parts).
It will be recalled that Zone B defeated hard fighting Zone F in the epic final last year to retain the trophy they won at the maiden edition, while Zone C emerged the losers’ winner.
