Former Delta Force Basketball Club, Asaba, Delta State, now at the helm of affair of the newest entrant, First Deepwater Basketball Club, Lagos, Lateef Erin-Folami has expressed delight at the wonderful opportunity the club provided for him to show case his mastery of the game at Lagos terrain.
Relishing what he termed a dream come through in a chat with Vandykesport.com at the National Stadium, Lagos on Monday, Erin-Folami said he will see to it that the club becomes a team to beat in the women’s premier league.
“I have looked forward to coaching Lagos teams, I’m elated that the management of First Deepwater basketball club has given the opportunity to actualize my career dream and I will make the best out of it, especially ensure that the team’s entrance into the Zenith women’s premier league is successful.

Meanwhile, the club has secured its place in the nation’s women elite league after a successful take-over negotiation with the management of Dodan Amazons basketball club of Lagos.
Both sides (Dodan Amazons led by its Coordinator, Col. Sam Ahmedu (Rtd) and First Deepwater basketball club led by its chairman, Engr. Babatunde Babalola) were engaged in a take-over talk since last December which culminated in the final agreement last week.
With the development, First Deepwater basketball club of Lagos has now taken the place of the Amazons in the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, organized Nigeria Women Premier League sponsored by financial giant, Zenith Bank in the 2008/ 2009 season expected to dunk-off early March, 2009.
The newest entrant who held a successful screening exercise recently resumed training on Monday with 14 out of the 17 players that attended the exercise.
The 14 players who were present for the Monday practice session include Patricia Chukwuma, Mary Chinweukwu, Dorcas Jiya, Juliet Ejogo, Julie Onyelugo, Temitope Oladele, Rebecca Iritei, Magdalene Ukato, Memuna Fuludu and Joan Afimia.
Others are Nkechi Akashili, Folashade Ogunsemoyin, Ijeoma Uchendu and Kelechi Obasi while the three players who are still been expected are Kikelomo Saliu, Atosu Upe and Chinenye Okoro.
Club chairman, Engr. Babalola at the weekend charged the players to be honest, hardworking and dedicated to their trainings and leave the rest to the management for optimum performance in the coming season. |
