Indomie boost Ikoyi ladies golf tourney
The 2008 edition of the Ikoyi Ladies Golf Open Championship receive a major boost as leading noodles manufacturer, Dufil Prima Foods Plc decided to co-sponsor the event. The tournament, which is the longest running Ladies Open in the country, will tee off at the Ikoyi Club 1938 from November 20-21
Speaking at a press conference at the club on Thursday, November 12, 2008, the Lady Captain of Ikoyi Golf section Maureen Reece expressed delight of the involvement of Dufil Prima Foods in the sponsorship of the Open.
"We are grateful to our sponsors. Dufil Prima Foods had made available financial support towards the organisation of the tournament. This is not the first time Dufil Prima Foods will be involved in the sponsorship of the Ladies Open. They have remained an ever-permanent fixture in the sponsorship of the event over the years. We only hope the package will be better in the years ahead," said Reece.
She remarked that the Ikoyi Ladies Open will maintain its age long tradition of attracting the best female golfers from all over the country and from the neighbouring West Coast nations. According to Reece high handicap players will only play next Thursday while the 0-28 handicappers will play 36-hole in two days.
A field of about 200 lady golfers is expected at the tournament.
