Oba Cup: Epe holds final March 01
Epe division of Lagos state is due to play its divisional finals of this year’s Oba Cup championship, sponsored by Skye Bank, on March 01 at the Recreational Ground, Epe.
According to the state commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele the other divisions – Ikorodu, Lagos, Ikeja and Badagry will play their finals on March 8th, 15th , 22nd and 29th respectively.
Adeniji-Adele who said every team will go home with something, explained that champion of each division will qualify for the quarter finals, while Lagos division which fielded more clubs will have its runner up qualify for the last eight.
“Looking at the array of trophies displayed, there is no lying in the saying that almost everybody would go home with one trophy or the other because there are trophies for the best players, highest goal scorer, most valuable player, best defender, best goalkeeper, best behaved team, best referee, first, second and third placed teams, etc.
“The five divisional winner would automatically qualify for the quarter finals at the state level, Lagos division by virtue of registering the highest number of clubs for the tournament was allotted an extra slot meaning that Lagos divisional champion and runner up qualify for the state quarter finals, the four other divisions runner ups would play two knockout matches and the victorious two would obtain the last two slots for the state quarter finals,” he said.
It would be recalled that at the divisional preliminaries Ikeja registered 32, Badagry 24, Ikorodu 32, Lagos 93 and Epe 20 clubs respectively.
The soccer fiesta in honour of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Osuolale Akiolu, will see winners rewarded with cash prizes. Runner ups take home N250, 000, champion pockets N500, 000 at the state level, quarter final winners get N200, 000, while 4th placed team win N250, 000, 3rd team takes N500, 000, 2nd team N1, 000, 000 and champion goes home with N2, 000, 000. |
