Rugby celebrate 10th anniversary
The Rugby community in Nigeria will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of one of its Club side - Young Lions Rugby Football Club and in extension Nigeria Rugby which clocks 10 this year!
According to the International Rugby Board Educator for Nigeria Ntiense O. Williams;
“We are very grateful to God Almighty for guiding and protecting us throughout these 10 solid formative years of our club and Nigerian rugby’s existence in Nigeria. We have come a long way in terms of development of rugby in Nigeria and for this we give God the Glory.
“Young Lions Rugby Football Club which was formed alongside the national body in 1998 has come to be known as the cradle of rugby development in Nigeria with most of the rugby players having one link or the other with the club based in Lagos.
“The Club has produced hundreds of rugby players who have played and are still playing in Nigeria and abroad.”
To mark the 10th anniversary, a 15-a-side rugby match has been arranged by the “Friends of Rugby”, which will feature all past and present Young Lions Rugby players against a Lagos Select side on December 18.
The Club, whose founder was privileged to have encountered Rugby in Zimbabwe through The Salvation Army Church, will also celebrate a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, December 21 in Lagos.
Meanwhile, Cowrie Rugby Football Club, the 2008 Lagos Rugby Union League Champions have just returned from her impressive International Tour of Ghana with a win over a Ghanaian select side in a 15 –a-side Rugby encounter played at the Legon Rugby pitch in Accra Ghana. The visitors defeated their host by 16 points to 5 points in a Rugby Club International Friendly encounter.
